According to German doctrine this was the eyes and ears of the Division.

Second Panzer was one of only four divisions to receive the Puma armored car. This 8 wheeled armored car was generally considered to be the best made during the war.


A.A.2 Organization
June-November 1944

Stab A.A. 2 Headquarters unit.
1./A.A.2 (first company) Heavy Armored Car Company (no infantry, armored cars only)
2./A.A.2 Light Armored Car Company (no infantry, armored cars only)
3./A.A.2 Light Armored Half-Track Company (SPW 250) (infantry on half-tracks only)
4./A.A.2 Light Armored Half-Track Company (SPW 250) (infantry on half-tracks only)
5./A.A.2 Heavy (support) Company (SPW 251) This company had infantry guns, Pak 40 etc.
Supply Company
No infantry on motorcycles, no truck delivered infantry, no car infantry.

December 1944

Stab A.A. 2 Headquarters unit, included Pumas.
1./A.A.2 Refitting in Wildflecken did not participate in the Ardennen Offensive. The heavy armored cars including Pumas were in the Stab (AA2 HQ)
2./A.A.2 Light Armored Half-Track Company (SPW 250)
3./A.A.2 Bicycle Company
4./A.A.2 Heavy (support) Company (SPW 251) This company had infantry guns, Pak 40 etc.
Supply Company
No infantry on motorcycles, no truck delivered infantry, no car infantry.

After the Battle of the Bulge A.A.2 was transferred to Milowitz. It was gradually brought back up to strength but never reunited with 2.Panzer.
